Local sources in Panjshir province report that the Taliban intend to forcibly displace the residents and rename the province “Pashtun Valley.”
\nOn Wednesday, May 13th, sources told the Royat News Agency that the Taliban are compiling lists of 500 families from each district of Panjshir to relocate them to Mazar-i-Sharif, replacing them with Pashtuns.
\nOther reports from various areas of Panjshir indicate that the Taliban have warned residents of the villages of Istayche, Alukh, Dasht-e-Kaf, and Espiana to leave their homes.
\nPrior to these warnings, the Taliban distributed forms to assess land prices, announcing that these areas would be converted into military bases.
\nCultural activists express serious concerns, believing the Taliban aim to evacuate Panjshir of its original inhabitants and settle their own families and Pashtuns from the south in the province.
\nFurthermore, the Taliban have exerted pressure on Panjshir shopkeepers and young people, interrogating and detaining some.
\nAccording to sources, these actions, seemingly aimed at altering Panjshir’s ethnic, racial, and social identity, have elicited diverse reactions.
