Representatives of Afghanistan’s Sik community have reacted to the statements made by the Taliban’s Minister of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
\nHarbans Singh, a representative of Sikhs and Hindus in Afghanistan, deemed the recent remarks by Khalid Hanafi, the Minister of Promotion of Virtue of the Taliban, as offensive and expressed concerns about the religious minorities.
\nThe representative of Hindus and Sikhs of Afghanistan residing in the UK, stated that the statements by the Taliban’s Minister of Promotion of Virtue on the eve of Vaisakhi, have caused serious concerns among the minorities.
\nKhalid Hanafi had previously stated that non-Muslims, including Hindus and Sikhs, are “worse than animals.” In response to these statements, Singh emphasized that no one has the right to insult other religions.
\nHe stressed that with these remarks, many of the remaining Sikhs and Hindus in Afghanistan may be forced to leave the country.
\nThe Taliban’s Minister of Promotion of Virtue, who is one of the hardline officials in the group’s government, is particularly known for implementing restrictive policies against women.
