The assessments, carried out using the Istanbul Protocol, revealed that Afghans have been subjected to torture and abuse in their home country and face the risk of death if returned to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>The findings, released on Monday, April 1, indicate that the deportees show signs of psychological trauma, such as acute stress disorder, consistent with their reports of mistreatment. Many of them fled the Taliban.<\/p>\n<p>These evaluations, which also included human rights activists, former military officers, LGBTQ individuals, and political activists from countries like Afghanistan, Iran, and Russia, found that none of the deportees were given the opportunity to explain their reasons for leaving or the dangers they face to U.S. or Panamanian authorities.
